Christmas Day

We had a fabulous Christmas day, this year we decided to spend it on our own at home - I can't believe I was worried it would be quiet!! Unfortunately the camera battery decided to go flat about 2 minutes after I started updating the blog so more photos will follow tomorrow but for now I will leave you with these two ...

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Well we have finally put our Christmas tree up, we decorated it this morning. Despite the fact I am a self-confessed perfectionist/control freak I did let the children have free reign once I put the lights on. I think they did rather a good job and I only did a bit of minor tweaking once they'd finished.

We also went to see our elderly neighbour this afternoon to take him a Christmas present. We spent a while chatting and he loves spending time with Noel and April. When we came home and while we still had wellies and coats on we decided to sprinkle the "Reindeer Dust" the children brought home from Calke Abbey. We put some on the front as well to be on the safe side, although I don't fancy Father Christmas' chances of landing his sleigh on our front garden, although its the width of the house, its only about 3ft long!

All that remains is for me to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and may all your wishes come true for 2010.

Lots of love

Jem, Stu, Noel and April x x x x

I just had to show you this

I found this photo while I was looking at the nativity photos, I thought I would share it with you ...

Nativity

Is there anything nicer than little children performing a nativity? I don't think so personally. Last night it was the Salvation Army carol concert and the children from "JAM club" put on a nativity, as they do every year, only this year both of my children were in it! Noel was Joseph and April was a shepherd.

It was really lovely, especially so as the costumes are real traditional costumes - complete with tea towels on the head and all the children sang at the end - and out came the tissues of course!

Unfortunately for some reason Aprils photo is a little blurred, I think this is because Stu took it while she was moving
Joseph and Mary awaiting the birth of Jesus

Calke Abbey

I took the children to Calke Abbey just after lunch today - it must have been good, we didn't get home until half past seven!

We enjoyed the tree walk so much we went round twice, once in the daylight and once again when it was all lit up. Then we warmed up in the restaurant with hot chocolate and scones - delicious!

There was an old fashioned organ grinder, which the children were fascinated by.

I'm hoping all that fresh air will help them sleep through tonight, even though I have to be up at 5am for work, I still could do with catching up on a few hours. I can't remember the last good nights sleep I had - probably before I was a mummy!

Everyone enjoyed listening to the organ grinder - he even had a little monkey to keep him company ! (not real obviously...)

April admiring one of the trees

We always have our photo taken by the wishing tree - I don't know why Noel is pulling that face though! Noel wished for a Reindeer (!), April wished NOT to see Santa, and I can't tell you what I wished for (yet)...

Christchurch Tree Festival

We all went to have a look at the trees on Wednesday before I went to my Homestart awards lunch and mum took the children home to have lots of fun. There were some gorgeous trees, unfortunately I wasn't really in a position to take any pictures as I was too busy trying to make sure April didn't run off, and Mum was trying to take care of Noel as two of the angels had balloons on for their heads.

However, I did manage these pictures..

April by the nativity - she loves Baby Jesus

Noel went into the side chapel and made up this little nativity scene

At the entrance - the head is paper mache so he was ok with this one

Fun at Woodlands

On Tuesday mum came over and took Noel, April and myself to Woodlands for the day. For those of you who aren't familiar, Woodlands is an enormous garden centre in Hinkley.

The Christmas displays were out of this world. An enormous nativity and a grotto with a "sleeping" polar bear. Unfortunately the photos don't really do it justice, it really was fantastic.

Mum kindly treated us all to lunch there too - what a fabulous day!

Happy Days!

I took the children over to Derbyshire on Saturday to visit friends. First Di and John and then over to see Jenny and Andy. Noel was in his element at Di's house, as John let him have a sit on his bike - even April hopped on for a photo!

I love December, and the feeling of anticipation it brings. Noel has already told me that he doesn't want me to put up the tree until Christmas eve, as he said last year he was disappointed every morning he got up to see there were no presents underneath it!

Next weekend promises to be just as busy, Calke Abbey on Saturday for the tree festival, and then Sunday to see my niece Amy for a pre-christmas get together. I am trying to counteract this with lots of quiet activities in the week. Today we sat filling in a Nativity activity book together, April stuck in the stickers and Noel filled in the questions and did the puzzles. I think we may have another attempt at snowflakes later - last time we tried a well meaning neighbour popped in with gifts from his holiday and that was the end of our quiet activities!!

York

On the Bullet Train at the National Railway museum.

Having fun on the rides at York Christmas market

We've just come back from a few days in lovely York, we had a great time staying at James and Hannahs, and the children especially enjoyed themselves. There were a few sad faces when it was time to go home but hopefully it won't be too long before we visit again!

Party time!

Noel enjoying his party food

Aprils cake that my friend made as her present.

April blowing out her candles.

April's party went well on Saturday, especially considering I've never actually hosted a "proper" party before -its always been a small tea party with pass the parcel and a cake. This time I had 14 children all expecting to be fed and entertained for 2 hours - gulp!

I was very lucky though and I had lots of helpers, which made a world of difference, and all the children were extremely well behaved and seemed to enjoy themselves too.

It can't have been that bad - Aprils already asking if she can have another party next year!!

Happy Birthday April!!

Happy 4th Birthday to our lovely little Princess, April Elizabeth Hazel Wills.

Its hard to believe that 4 years ago today, I gave birth at home to a 9lb 11oz baby, it feels like only yesterday.

We are spending the morning baking and playing with her new presents, then its off to the tea rooms for lunch (Aprils choice of activity) before going to a tea party for her little friend Thomas who is 3 today.

Then tomorrow we will be having a party for 14 friends at the Salvation Army. Happy days xx

Another bookworm

It went very quiet while I was cooking dinner. Thats when I found April curled up on Noels bean bag, nose in a book, books all around, clearly engrossed in "little red train". So much so that she didn't even notice I had taken her photograph until afterwards! Long may it continue I say!

Sparkles everywhere!

This morning while April was at playschool, Noel and I enjoyed making some playdough for a friend's son who shares his birthday with April. It started off as blue but I couldn't get the colour as dark as I liked, so I made it into purple instead and added some lavender oil and glitter to make it extra special - I hope he likes it!

Then to continue our sparkly theme, we mixed different colour glitters into some paint this afternoon and the children enjoyed making some pictures with it.

NIce things come in small packages!

I opened the post today and found these two beautiful decorations from my lovely friend Sue. She sent them all the way from Yeovil, what a lovely surprise, thank you best mate x

And here is Noelie with a helicopter he made out of brio we are borrowing from the toy library. He is so pleased with it that he asked me to take his photo so Grandpa can see it on the blog x

Yummy treats

Mum has been doing some baking today with the little ones while I spent the day at work. Here are some of the fruits of their labour (the others have gone in the freezer because we have "ahem" mice.) I'm looking forward to sampling one of my biscuits later with a cuppa xx

The best things in life are free

Noel went out to play this afternoon (rather him than me, brr!) and 2 minutes later he came knocking at the back door with this little gift. We had been making bath salts this morning and I have him the tub to play with in the mud but instead he had filled it up with water from the water butt and picked this flower to go in it.

I couldn't have been happier if Interflora had come knocking on my door.

Feeling very lucky!

The children and I got back from a walk this morning to find a lovely parcel on the door step. A magazine, a paperback book and some delicious smelling handcream from my friend Rowan who I met at antenatal with Noel. I am really looking forward to snuggling up later with my new treats. There is something very decadent I always think about curling up with a glossy magazine.

And then the icing on the cake - the postman arrived with a thank you card from my brother Phil in America, to say thanks for his birthday present.

I am feeling very lucky and very loved today.

Cakes for friends

Noelie having fun with his peppers at lunch time :-)

We have been busy making and baking this morning in the Wills household. We have made banana cakes as thank you gifts and birdseed cakes for our little feathered friends.

Both were lots of fun and will hopefully be well received too!

Our weekend

We've had lots of family fun this weekend. Saturday we went to Rosliston Forest Centre and the children had lots of fun playing in the outdoor play area. Here they are being swung by Stuart!

On Sunday I came home from work to find the children playing in a fire engine they had made out of a cardboard box I brought home from work. They liked it so much they even had their lunch in there!

Bradgate Park

We had a lovely afternoon at Bradgate park on Saturday. The children took their bikes and we took a flask of coffee and we had a lovely walk/cycle. With Stuart being away so much it is lovely to do things as a family. Even better, we set the oven timer before we went and we came home to freshly cooked jacket potatoes - bliss!

What Mr Wills has been up to ...

Stu has just been away for a few days off-roading, here's a little photo from his trip.

Twice the fun!

I am still struggling to get photos from my camera on to the computer - its not having any of it - so Stuart put my memory card into his camera and took off these photos for me.

The children really enjoyed borrowing this bike from the toy library and had lots of fun with it!

Long time, no post

Well I had hoped to update my blog this evening with a few photos of some of the things we have been up to, but I am having trouble getting the computer to recognise the camera for some reason, so that will have to be a project for another day...

Meet our new friends

Noel and April chose these lovely friendly looking puppets on Tuesday when we went to the toy library. They have named them Desmond and Tinkerbell.

We have had lots of fun playing with them and making them talk - I don't know who has enjoyed it more - me or the children!

Blackberry Picking

We've had a lovely morning out on our bikes - collecting blackberries and playing on the park. We made a lovely Apple and Blackberry crumble for after tea - real Autumn food!

Look what I made!

Noel asked me to make him a lego helicopter and I have to be honest I've never made anything out of lego in my life, but I followed the instructions and several hours later he now has a "rescue helicopter" complete with side panels that lift, gear sticks and flashing lights. I'm quite proud of it if I do say so myself!

Scarecrow festival

On Tuesday we wrapped up against the rain and caught the bus to Heather to see the annual scarecrow festival.

Here are some of our favourites.

Noels favourite - Wall E

Incy Wincy Spider - Aprils favourite (despite the fact she doesn't like spiders!)

"Andy's room" from Toy Story
