A present for a new babe

My friend Rowan had her 4th gorgeous baby 10 days ago. As she already has all the baby equipment she needs I thought it would be nice to make something special for her new arrival. Although she tipped me off that it was likely the baby was a girl, I decided to play it safe and instead bought a birth sampler that was suitable for either, just in case. I've bought a frame but I thought it would photograph better without the glass in front.

I've mostly enjoyed doing it, a few bits had me puzzled but on the whole its been a very relaxing gift to make. - I just hope that she likes it!

I'm speechless!

Thank you very much to my lovely friend Pippa for this award, how touching, it really made my day! As I understand it I have to pass this award on to 10 other bloggers and then write 10 things about myself. Unfortunately I won't be able to participate in passing it on as the blogs I read are mainly Pippa's other nominees but I will divulge 10 things about myself ...

I was born in Chadderton in Oldham and was delivered by none other than my own Dad! I'm told by my mum that once the ambulance arrived my dad made everyone a cup of tea - after a shock like that perhaps a brandy may have been more appropriate ...!

My parents actually named me Joanne but I have always been "fiesty" shall we say and I changed it to Jemma when I was christened at the age of 12. What fun I shall have when my own children get older and everyone in my family repeats this story to them...

As a child I used to love playing "Teacher" and "Secretary". I have actually managed to fulfil both these roles as I worked as a P.A. before becoming a Stay at Home Mum, and I now fulful the role of Teacher as my children are home educated.

My favourite colour is Pink.

I bought myself a swinging seat last year and I love nothing better than sitting on it with a cup of coffee, lazily stitching and watching the children playing in the garden.

I have a really revolting wart on my thumb that I have put off having removed for the past 6 months. I am going to have it frozen off next wednesday.

I hate driving anywhere unfamiliar and would be happy to have a car mounted on rails. The thought of driving on the motorway makes me feel quite sick and if I imagine myself driving on it I get all hot and sweaty. I've even had motorway lessons in recent years only to be told every time that there is nothing wrong with my driving and what I need is confidence. And the only way I will get that confidence is by practising ...

I would love to live by the sea one day.

I love cross stitch but I am totally hopeless at sewing as I find it near impossible to sew in a straight line.

I am 28 weeks pregnant.

So there is a little bit of extra information about me that you may or may not know!

Fun at Snibston

We had a lovely day on Friday at Snibston Discovery Park with Phil. I'm not sure quite how much the children picked up but we all had had fun and we especially enjoyed spending the afternoon outside in the sunshine.

Noelie and April outside with their Uncle Phil

This is Noel's favourite part of the whole museum, he can spend hours pumping the water and letting out again

April did some learning about road safety and enjoyed a spot of dressing up as well

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ... Blast off!

We went to the toy library this morning and both the children chose a Spacesuit as you can see. They have lots of fun playing with them in the garden this afternoon (despite the fact that it was really hot!) In fact, April even ate her tea with her helmet on!

Making our own Volcano!

First, bury a bottle in some sand to make a "Volcano"

Mix together some vinegar and tomato ketchup in a cup

Spoon some bicarbonate of soda into the bottle

Pour the vinegar mixture into the bottle to mix with the bicarbonate of soda

Hey presto! Instant Volcano!

Making and Baking

While Stu and Noel were out Sunday afternoon tinkering with the car, April and I spent some girlie time baking and making playdough.

We made 2 lemon cakes which went down very well (and were incredibly easy), some carrot and raisin muffins and some glittery gingerbread playdough.

I also managed to spend some time sewing a birth sampler for my friends baby. She is due to have her baby Friday and for the last few weeks I have been furiously stitching away to try and get it finished. I am nearly done now and I will post a photo next week once I've finished it and have given it to her. I just hope she likes it!

Lucky Baby!

We are starting to get some things together for our new arrival later this year, and we are very lucky to have been sent this amazing quilt by my lovely friend Pippa. Unfortunately you can't see it that well from the photo so I've taken a close up of one of my favourite bits! Its so soft and snuggly and has been beautifully made - I feel very honoured that someone I have never even met in person has given up their time and expense to make a gift for our little bundle of joy - thank you so much xx

New Play Area

Well the old scruffy ex-veggie patch has gone and in its place is a new tidy play area - quite how long it will stay looking this nice I don't know but for now it looks lovely!!

Stu also moved the shed and we now have somewhere to park the bins out of sight - I'm so pleased as before where ever we sat in the garden we could see them. Its the little things that make the difference sometimes isn't it.

Big, big thanks to my lovely hubby and his dad for all their hard work xx
