Mini's first outing

As you can't really see what Hermione looks like from the two photos I posted, here is one of her on Monday afternoon. I had to take her to the doctors for her 24 hour check so, like most parents, I had to take a photo of her before she left the house for the first time.

Personally I think she looks like Stu - lets hope she has his laid back
temperament rather than my fiery one!

Meeting Uncle James

I took this photo on Monday when my youngest brother James came down from York to meet his latest little niece. I think its really lovely. I really must get round to asking someone to take a photo of us all together, although Stu is now back at work so I guess it will have to wait until the weekend when he is home.

Hermione is settling in well, its hard to believe that just over a week ago I was hobbling around trying to set off my contractions again. I was so excited when my waters broke in the early hours of Friday morning, little did I know that she would keep us waiting until Saturday to make her entrance into this world. And what an entrance it was, she literally landed earthside, taking us all by surprise. Especially me as I was convinced that she was a boy. And she would be big. And she would be late. I don't think I'll bother going into business as a psychic anytime soon, I couldn't have been more wrong if I'd tried!!

Meet Hermione

Just a quick one to let you know that Hermione Ann Lesley Wills was born this morning at 1.38am. She weighed 6lb 14oz and needless to say we are all smitten with her.
Lots of love

Due Date

I realise I didn't post yesterday and a lot of my friends and family keep checking the blog for news of baby's arrival! Well today is my "official" due date but there are no signs of meeting our baby soon.

I just wanted to post to let you all know I've not had it yet, and I will be in touch when I do - probably via more traditional means such as birth announcement cards and telephone calls rather than the blog though!!

While we wait ...

The children came bursting into my room this morning "is the baby here?!" Sadly no, baby is staying where s/he is for now. We had some lovely friends come over for the afternoon but while we waited this morning we made some chocolate rice crispie cakes, played with the bubbles and did some crafts - Noel made a pendant and April made a fairy. We're not a particularly crafty family but it made a nice change and we all enjoyed ourselves.

Modelling my new hospital slippers!

Noel busy at work making his pendant

All done and just waiting for the paint to dry so we can thread it on some ribbon

April drawing a smiley face on her fairy

All done and ready to hang up

The children have run riot with the chalks this afternoon, drawing lots of lovely pictures on the side of the house (sadly its too dark for me to take a photo show you) and playing in the park with their friends.

I go through stages where I feel a bit restless and unsettled but I'm just trying to take it a day at a time. I've tried to plan something for every day so that we're not sitting and waiting - baby will show up when the time is right and for now we can just enjoy the excitement of wondering just exactly when that will be!!

Painting Fun

We had planned to go out this morning to "Coalville by the Sea" but the downpours that have lasted all morning put paid to that! So instead we spent the morning catching up on some of our workbooks and then the children asked to do some painting.

No Baby Yet !

I have just opened my email to find quite a few messages from everyone asking if I am ok as I've not blogged since Tuesday so I thought I'd better post a little something just to let you all that I am fine and there is no sign of Baby Wills as yet.

I went to the midwife yesterday, I was a bit worried as last time I went she said the baby hadn't grown in the last couple of weeks and I was fully expecting her to book me in for an inducement if the baby still hadn't grown. However, I'm very pleased to tell you that the baby has grown, and is now measuring at 37 weeks (I am 39 weeks exactly today). I can't imagine the baby will be here in the next week or so - in fact I am so confident that Stu is still working away and will be next week as well. It also means that I get to sprawl out in the bed and Stu isn't kept awake by my snoring either!

The midwife has given me 2 alternative places to give birth if the local home birth team are booked up. One is the birth suite at the nearest hospital, the other is a birth centre in Melton Mowbray. Stu and I have decided to go for the birth centre if I can't have a home birth and he is home to take me, but if Dad is taking me for any reason then I have decided to stick with the hospital route, as its a more direct place to get to, and will be better signposted as well. I think it would feel strange giving birth somewhere other than home but all that matters is Baby Wills is delivered safe and sound - no matter where that might be.

Thanks again to everyone who has text and emailed, its lovely to hear from you all xx

A Peaceful Day

The children and I have had a really relaxing day today, I used to go stir crazy staying at home all day but at the minute I prefer it! We spent the morning catching up on some "learning". April loves sitting and working her way through an activity book, with a little help, where as Noel would rather stick pins in his eyes and its such a struggle to encourage him to write. However, Daddy got a new remote controlled helicopter at the weekend (yes you did read that correctly, its Stuarts) so Noel was very keen to draw a picture of it and write all about it in his exercise book.

After lunch we did a spot of baking, something we haven't done for ages. The fairy cakes are for tomorrow, April is having a friend over to play so I thought the children might enjoy decorating those and the cheese scones were at the request of both Noel and April. I can't remember the last time we made scones but we enjoyed making them, and the children are enjoying eating them. They have requested "smiley face" pancakes for breakfast tomorrow, with different fruit (and veg) for the face.

I think I must be "nesting" as I went into the garden after tea to bring in the washing and I found myself starting to weed the garden ( a rather overdue task with all the rain we have had of late). It took all my willpower not to get the lawnmower out so fingers crossed its dry tomorrow and I can get it done. I find myself doing a lot of "last minute" jobs at the minute, each day bringing more. Lets face it, if Baby Wills does arrive tonight, my first thought will be how long it will take Stu to get back from London rather than "damn, I wanted to cut the grass tomorrow"!

Todays bump update

I can hardly believe that I have less than 2 weeks before our baby is due, time seems to going very quickly these days. I think it helps that Noel and April keep me busy and help take my mind off it. Apart from a few minor jobs to do on Sunday we are pretty well organised - well as organised as you can be when you have absolutely no idea when a baby is coming!

Photo taken by April, as you may guess from the angle!

A little update of Noel and April. I managed to get Aprils hair cut short after the makeover she was given last week but the hairdresser couldn't do anything about her fringe, so it will be headbands for now.

Scarecrow Festival

A very proud little boy helped his Nanna and sister to hang up this new bird box today. He'd actually wanted to make it himself at mums but with a little persuasion mum and dad managed to get him to design one instead, and then poor Dad got the job of making it and painting it! Fingers crossed we get some new inhabitants.

We also went to the annual Heather Scarecrow festival with mum today. We've been going every year since I discovered it and a great time was had by all. Here are some of the children's favourites..

Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. The whole close had entered into the spirit of things and there were scarecrows of Glinda, the Wicked Witch, the Wizard and of course Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow to name but a few.

The Gruffalo

Toy Story

Everyone works so hard to make the scarecrows, they really are brilliant and we managed to dodge the rain as well. Of course, Noel and April now want to make their own scarecrow out of paper mache - watch this space ...!

Raspberry leaf tea - said to help tone the uterus.

Hidden under the dining room table, a cardboard box full of things I might need for the home birth and in case its a hospital birth, a bag packed all ready.

This moses basket was originally bought for Spencer, Stu's little cousin. It was then passed on to us for Noel. April has slept in it and now its all ready and waiting for our new baby to enjoy.
